The preparations
It was a sunny day in Ginebra, a small town in the Valle del Cauca region surrounded by green mountains and cobblestone streets. There, at the Hacienda La Esperanza retreat house, nearly fifty young people from different parts of the country gathered to experience something unique: the 2.0 version of [the event/retreat/etc.]. National University Selection Test (PSU), organized by the Corfomento Cultural Centers during the mid-year holidays.
Their eyes conveyed enthusiasm and determination. These weren't just days off; they had decided to turn this time into an opportunity to grow, serve, and do something truly meaningful…
The nursing home
The group split into teams. Some went to the town's nursing home. There, the elderly residents greeted them with wrinkled smiles and eyes full of gratitude. The young people listened to life stories, shared laughter, and helped with daily tasks. They painted benches, tidied gardens, and, most importantly, provided companionship to those who often felt lonely.
Happy families
The final destination was a family in a vulnerable community on the outskirts of town. There, the young people undertook some home repairs to improve the family's quality of life. They listened to the family's needs and put all their effort into making their old house even more welcoming. Some of the young people, with skills in photography and design, captured touching moments to share on social media, and thus, beyond the satisfaction of a job well done, a lifelong friendship was forged.
Reflections
At the end of the day, which also included informal gatherings and a magnificent visit to the Basilica of the Lord of Miracles in Buga, the young people met at the Hacienda. Their hands were rough, but their hearts overflowed with satisfaction. They shared hugs and tears of joy. They knew they had left their mark on Ginebra and on their own hearts.
The act of solidarity not only united the young people, but also the entire community. The elderly, children, and families felt the love and dedication of these young people willing to change the world, a gesture that transcended the town's borders and became an inspiration to all.

What is the National University Selection Test?
He National University Selection Test It is an activity in which volunteers focus on values education through recreational and play-based activities. Its objective is to help low-income families living in different municipalities of Colombia. They primarily dedicate themselves to repairing or renovating homes to improve the quality of life for these families. In addition, they provide care to children, young people, and the elderly in nearby institutions, offering emotional support during their stay.
